1947 County Show 2/3

Here we see some Highland Dancing from the 2 Bt. Seaforths.
The pylons in the background are interesting- is that Netherbutton, or were there others nearer Kirkwall?

Comments:
Might I suggest this picture is printed the wrong way around. My reasons for suspecting this are, firstly the piper has the pipes over the right shoulder which is unusual, now, there are left hand pipers about and he might be one, however secondly if you look at the two persons in the foreground, a drum sling/shoulder belt is usually worn over the right shoulder not the left and the glengarry is usually tilted over the right eye with the badge on the left hand side which is not the case here. Just a suggestion, but it could have a bearing on the location of the picture with the aerials in the background?

[Adminstrators note: see picture #965 for 'right way round' version]

Sorry about that - it was a scan from an old negative and not being uniform-minded I had no idea which way round it should have been.

Eddy you are correct. The photo was one of a group taken at the 1947 County Show in Bignold Park - that's what's written on the actual photos in my photo album. The photos are amongst a group of photos taken in Orkney by my mother on her and my first visit to Orkney after she married my father and they had me [she came from London so Orkney was a bit different to her!]

I believe that the pylons in the background are the ones that were in the field which is now between the papdale east housing estate and the deerness road and therefor the dancing would be taking place in the bignold park.
