Norwegian fishing boats struggle to stay along side pier. Date/year?
Picture added on 28 February 2008
Have a look at picture #1993. The opinion there was that the boats were Danish.

Yes, Danish. I have cine film of this incident which is being put on to a DVD. I remember this day a lifeline fired from the Grace Patterson Ritchie lifeboat went over the silos on the pier. Also many dockers and coastguard pulled lines ashore.
I also have photos of damage to the boats. Mostly rail damage, and the next day divers were down inspecting props & rudders.

At the right hand side of the photo a red coaster belonging to Robin Dennison (opposite the Orkney Steam Store) battered a sizable chunk out of the pier without too much damage to the ship. Robin`s ropes must have been stronger than the Danes'.

Those trawlers were from Skagen in Denmark.
