this was the Kitchen for the School Hostel.

This, in 1995, looks pretty run down, but in my school days (see Old Scapa Road 1) this was the Matron's block. All the windows to the right of this picture were her accommodation. To the left of the door there were a couple more dormitories and some store room. This block was joined up to the kitchen which in turn led to the dining rooms - one for us girls and a separate one for the GPO men. Adjoining our dining room were the "recs", the places where we all had to report at 6pm to do our homework, which was supervised for two hours. All that middle area has now been demolished.

The room on the left was the boiler room and was looked after by a man named Sinclair Sinclair.
