Kirkwall from the south west

A Tom Kent picture, date unknown, taken from near the farm of Corse, with the Orkney Combination Poorhouse (County Home) in the foreground.

The long wall cutting across the top right of the picture shows the line of the Clay Loan, and shows how Kirkwall's expansion to the south has yet to happen. Buttquoy House is isolated in its park (with Brandyquoy Park to its bottom left), and the manse at the top of what would become Manse Road equally alone at the extreme right of the picture.
