Bond Minicar and crew on the test bed at Hatston. Davy Work (seated) and Norman Windwick.

Great picture, interesting car, very quirky and looks as though it would be a challenge to drive safely, especially in Kirkwall rush-hour traffic in 2008! What happened to this car, it would be good to find out more about its history and owners. Is that a BS plate on it?

Ah, so this is where Clive Sinclair got the inspiration for the Sinclair C5

I mind something about a Bond car near Woodwick Evie. It was close to the road??

You are correct, There was a red Bond minicar at my grandparents house, Garson in Rendall.I believe it was my uncle who owned it.I think most of it was there when we spent many hours playing in it.It was an aluminium body powered by a villiers motor bike engine mounted to a turntable in the front and if my memory serves me it either turned right round or was so tight turning reverse was not required. On the subject of Bond cars, Davie Shearer had a Bond Bug in his showroom in J&W Taits building when he was there and I think it worked on much the same principle but was a "sporty" fibreglass model built after Reliant bought Bond in 1969

The red Bond was my husband's first car, when he was a student in Edinburgh. It was quite a challenge to drive there, as it had a tendency to stall at the lights, and he had to get out and kick start it. He later sold it my cousin, Dave's uncle Alistair.
