A photo from the Orkney Library Photographic Archive. Date estimated. No Phoenix (1955) or Rossland Garage (1951), but Mackay's Furniture Stores are there on the left. I don't know when they got that shop front, but the business was there pre-war. The car is late thirties or forties. Looking over the garden of what later became my parents' house you can see the roof of Wick's stables, subsequently owned by, amongst others, Leith the butcher, Ian Swanney and Palace Players.
