'Picture of Victoria Street Kirkwall showing the old shop front of William Shearers'

The front of the shop has now moved back a bit since then, but the arched passage on the dilapidated building next door is still there, the building itself only having been renovated recently.

Date is an estimate.

Comments:
This picturen was taken in 1964 just prior to demolition. The windows have already been removed. The shop carried on during this time in the store across the street which was later removed to make way for the present car park.

Also note, the sign above the front of the shop is still in advertisement! It's above the back store door.

The "dilapidated" building next door was in fact renovated in the 1960s too and two houses were created out of the upper floors, though the old shop just out of sight on the right was not used for anything till the more recent changes.

The picture was taken in 1964, just before William Shearer's was demolished to make way for the new shop.
