Finstown Bachelors' Ball

Paul writes:
'I don't know what the Finstown Bachelors Ball 1924 was, but it was evidently not restricted to bachelors. The photo is by William Hourston. My maternal grandparents, James and Georgetta Flett, are sitting in the second row from the front, fourth and fifth from the left (counting the woman at the extreme left of the picture as first), and I am told that second row from the back, seventh and eighth from the left are a Mr and Mrs Turfus. I know none of the others.'

Any ideas as to the identities?

Comments:
I am william hourston's great, great grandson, so I was wondering if anyone had details or anything interesting information about him.

My great grandfather was also a James Flett but his wife was Catherine Spence Leask and she was born in1848 so James and Georgetta would be a couple of generations younger. My sister, cousin and I are from Canada and will be in Orkney from Aug. 24 til
Sept. 6 and are anxious to meet anyone who might be related way back when. Our Flett ancestors were from Redland Farm and also had a connection to Ness House in Stromness where My great Uncle Willie Flett retired after many years at sea. Do you suppose there is any connection?
