Storm conditions on Ayre Road

A Tom Kent picture from the days when the sea came right up to the road. Date is an estimate.
Picture added on 11 January 2005
Comments:
In the 70s I have memories of going to school on days when the sea was coming over the road. If it was really rough, you went round by Pickaquoy: otherwise you just went along the Ayre on the Peedie Sea side.

There were occasional days in winter when it froze the day after a rough sea, so that the Ayre became very treacherous. On one such day, I made the foolish decision to cycle to school. Result was one bent bike, one bruised backside and one slightly traumatised driver of the Mini behind.

The Ayre hotel must have been flooded sometimes - does anyone remember that?
