A very sad reminder for Longhope folk - the reason why the lifeboat was lost on 17th March 1969.

Large numbers of divers visit orkney each year, and i felt that some of them were unaware of the great tragedy surrounding the sinking of any vessel. The visit to the Irene was to take photographs for an article which was published on a very popular internet dive forum. A copy of it can be found by clicking here.

If there are any innacuracies in the story please let me know and they can be changed.

There are three recordings from the BBC which bring back all the memories of that sad time and can be found through google if you put scotland on film longhope into the search bar. I can't put a link on this site.
