Northern Constabulary Top of the Form quiz Orkney final 1979. It was held at the Dounby School, if I remember right, and Kirkwall Primary (there was only one primary school until Glaitness opened later that year) had just beaten Stromness. The Kirkwall team, left to right, were Keith Matthews, Ian Sandison, myself and John Foulis. Behind us Mrs Vesco and Mr MacInnes look quite pleased at our victory. The Stromness team doesn't look too downhearted either, possibly because the runners-up got trophies that were rather more substantial than those given to the winners! The quiz master, standing centre, was Sgt. Billy Peace. The "buzzers" were made out of old tobacco tins wired together, each with a push button and coloured light. Our success was short-lived. Not long after this we were defeated by Pultneytown Academy, Wick in a three-cornered contest with Sound Primary School of Lerwick.
