Shearer's Coal Depot

In West Castle Street. I wonder if that is the original old sign?

Comments:
It's appropriate that you should post this picture, as I was wondering when the sign came down- anybody know?

Click to View shows it was there in the 1930s anyway.

Click to View also shows it very clearly.

Yes it is the original sign, it is still in the shed. It blew down in a gale about 96/97, certainly the late 90's.

I dont think they can be the same! J G Shearer is on the top of one sign and on the bottom of the other

I wish they would knock down the building now - before it falls down! the end next to No3 is really bad!

I would like to point out that "they" ( John G Shearer & Sons ) no longer own or have anything to do with this building and have not done so for a few years.

See picture #15044 for an update on this situation.

This building is still there at 14th September, 2011. It is even more derelict now - especially the roof. It is right opposite the Tourist Centre. Not a good advert for bonny Kirkwall.
