Mill Brae, Eday

Peter writes:
'I enclose another picture Of Eday by the late Sandy Wylie, this time the area is the Millbounds around the north side of Mill Bay.

The buildings on the left are Ferniebrae, and further to the right the house of Wantonbrae.

Carrying on to the right, and up the brae a little is the farm of Beggshouse. On top of the brae is Harcusquoy, and beyond that on the horizon can be seen the island of Sanday.

The house slightly left of centre in the distance is Shamrocklea.'

Comments:
The area of the bay to the left of Ferniebrae was known Cockle pow where we used to catch flounders and the dry sand to the right at low tide was a grand playground. Ferniebrae was where I was born 90 years ago.

Does any one know of the Hercus/Harcus family from Eday, they lived at Wanton Brae in the 18/19th century. My GG Grandfather Stewart Hercus/Harcus was born on Eday and moved to Kirkwall
