London Zoo seal-acquisition project #17

Welcome to London. Nowadays there are grey seals in the Thames Estuary I believe and such a mission would not happen. However things were different then.

Comments:
From memory, I think a Dr Ted Smith was involved in a grey seal count in Orkney at that time. I went with him and several members of Orkney field Club to the Green Holms in the late Billy Tait, of J&W Tait,'s motor boat to tag seals. Eddie Balfour got bitten on the hand: one of the five people needed to hold down and tag the three week old pup didn't get it quite right and Eddie's hand got in the way of the sharp end of the seal.
I seem to think that one of the seals was named 'Ola'.
