Comments:
Wonderful old photo, with an armada of Zulus setting out for the fishing grounds, and an 'industrialised' Outer Holm.
Just below the southern end of that holm you can see an anchored, dismasted sailing vessel, which must be the hulk 'Enterprise', serving as the Stromness depot of the Northern Lighthouse Board before the Lighthouse Pier was built. My maternal grandad, Charlie Smith, was the Depot Superintendent at that time, and lived with his family on board the hulk. My mother used to row herself to school (the building in the right foreground) in a 'flattie'.
