Comments:
My family are from Shetland and my mother was a Loutit, but when they moved to London, they changed the spelling to Lutitt

So we have three spellings of the old surname: Louttit, Loutit & Lutitt
Lamb's ORKNEY SURNAMES includes only the first of these - initially recorded in the 15th century.

(Many of us would no doubt have been tempted to change the 2nd syllable in the name. Bravo to your family for hanging on to it!)
