This is a picture of my grandmother Mary Louttit married to James T S Groundwater of
)rphir. Children bill,Bertie,Rodney and Nettie who was my mum. Mary's parents were William Louttit from Burray and Betsy Linklater from Deerness. If anyone out there can give me any info on Mary as to where she was buried etc I would gladly appreciate

My family are from Shetland and my mother was a Loutit, but when they moved to London, they changed the spelling to Lutitt

So we have three spellings of the old surname: Louttit, Loutit & Lutitt
Lamb's ORKNEY SURNAMES includes only the first of these - initially recorded in the 15th century.

(Many of us would no doubt have been tempted to change the 2nd syllable in the name. Bravo to your family for hanging on to it!)

My mum was a Lutitt, i think they were from Shetland too

This is interesting.
James Thomas Smith Groundwater is my second cousin three times removed. He was born 21 Mar 1881 at Roadside, Clestrain, Orphir, and died 29 Jun 1948 at Viewfield, Clestrain, Orphir.
