Not sure whether it was a retiral or a christmas doo. I came across this picture while scanning old photos and I do not know who to give the credit to.

It is either late GPO or early BT. Most of the names are known with a couple of blanks.

Bulk of the thanks goes to grant Leonard.

Hello there, I found this photo interesting as my Great-grandmother was Jane Rosie, born 1835, who died in 1871, shown on Swona with her two children that year on the census. She'd married William Basketter (who I haven't found any info on) in Wick in 1857, Ross shown on the certficate, not Rosie. Their son William Sinclair Basketter (my Great-grandfather) was born in 1862, I was told by my parents that Sinclair was a family name. I would like to here of his sister, Jane, born 1859, Stromness, and any descendants. Have we distant relatives out there? - I see Billy Sinclair and Alan Rosie in the photo. - Coincidentally I worked for Post Office Telephones/ BT myself. Please email [email protected] if you have any info re the family members mentioned, thanks, Sue.

Hello there, I am so pleased to find this photo...I am 99% sure that “Taffy Allen” on this photo was my Dad’s first cousin, William Allen, from South Wales. Dad told me he had a first cousin, Will Allen, who served in WW II, (he also told me that Will had served as a WW II photographer, and had been terribly upset by photography duties he had at a concentration camp in the final months of the war). I know he moved to the Orkneys, and I have to say that he looks a lot like my late Dad.
I would love to get in touch with any family “Taffy Allen” might still have in the Orkney Islands. His Aunt was my Grandmother.
I really hope someone sees my comment and will be able to confirm if this really is my Dad’s cousin.
If you are family, please get in touch with me - a Welsh cousin - at [email protected]
Many thanks for sharing this photograph, and kindest best wishes.
