Picture among old photos belonging to my grandparents Billy & Mary Bews (nee Muir) of Strathore then Quoymorhouse, Shapinsay. Can anyone help me with who they are.

Both these men are wearing police constables uniforms circa 1900. As the photographer is in Pollockshaws Road I am assuming that they are members of the Glasgow Police. If the collar numbers and letters were clear you would be able to ascertain to which division or station they belonged.

Phyllis, would you have been related to William Bews, born Kirkwall 1874, Police Constable, Maryhill, Glasgow, who was married to Catherine born in Firth,1874?

Man on left is William Work born at Diggins in Shapinsay in 1875 who moved to Glasgow to be a policeman. Unable to read the collar numbers.

My Grt Grandfather John Sinclair, born Herston 1862 joined the Glasgow police in 1885 and transferred to the Glasgow Marine Police. Unfortunately there are no photographs of him.

The William Bews I have is a son of Archibald and Jacobina (m.s.Stout) Bews, who were married, 12.11.1868. Archibald died 1909 in Shetland and Jacobina who was from Fair Isle, died in Arbroath in 1924.
From the 1901 census, William Work from Shapinsay was a policeman staying in the parish of Govanhill in the district of Gorbals, wih his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and James Muir.
