In connection with my comment on picture #27237, here's a reproduction of Ian MacInnes's caricature of 'Long Tom' Mainland published in The Orkney Herald some three-quarters of a century ago. The policeman is clearly coiled to strike - either a villain's collar or a naughty boy's backside.
