New Ford 4000 tractors

New Ford 4000 tractors outside Robertson's garage, opposite the old library, Laing St. 1971. The tractor nearest the camera is CBS 17J, now owned by Leslie Alexander.

[I miss the quirkiness of having an agricultural machinery dealers across a narrow road from the library - Steven]

I always thought that the flats now on that site should have been - 3000,4000,5000 and 7000 Laing Street.

Ane o these tractors would be one we had, bought new by Mr David Moss from Holm in 1971-72 maybe one o the best tractors we ever had, we bought her from J & W Tait in 1974.
When I was looking to replace her after a few years I went to Jimmy Robertson for a new one Jimmy said " Bue yae wid be better buying twa good coos instead"!. So I went tae Robbie Flett and bought a John Deere! so ending my love of Ford tractors!

That was Jimmy Robertson who else wid turn down the chance tae sell a new tractor, aye only Jimmy!.
Another time I asked Jimmy about a good second hand baler if he knew of one coming in, so he phoned me to say he had one of the type I wanted I said fine I would take her, "Naa naa yill better come in tae see her" so I set off tae the toon, at that time a whole day away only tae be told by Jimmy "Bue aam selt that baler tae a man fae Birsay"!!.
I think I went tae the pub I was so mad still he wiz a fine craiter
