Rosa pimpinellifolia

Rosa pimpinellifolia 'Double White'. The smallish flowers have a very attractive globular form, and have a scent reminiscent of lily-of-the-valley, with a touch of lemon. The wild form is a British native, and can be found right up to the north of mainland Scotland, especially near the coasts. It is completely hardy here. The wild form grows into a suckering mass; the cultivated types are rather better behaved. Finstown, 25/7/12
