Arrival in North Ronaldsay, August 1960. SS Earl Thorfinn alongside. Mixed cargo on the pier ready for loading. The Ektachrome colours on this transparency have survived well. I believe the pier mounted crane was for hoisting the local mail boat onto a trolley on a railway track which ran up the pier.

I was using Kodachrome in 1962 but soon switched - probably unwisely since some of its dyes proved unstable over time - to Agfachrome because it was a little bit faster. Well, twice as fast in fact - 50 ASA compared with regular Kodachrome's 25.
