Satellite image of the clouds which gave torrential rain over parts of Orkney on Sunday 29th July 2012. Sanday and North Ronaldsay in the clear along with extreme eastern parts of mainland and the south isles. With a light, humid south easterly wind there are big convective clouds downwind of Tankerness, Burray and S Ronaldsay and smaller plumes downwind of Deerness, Sronsay and Sanday. The big storm over NE Caithness was at the centre of a low pressure area and rotated without moving most of the day. Image courtesy of MODIS Rapid Response Project at NASA/GSFC.
