Much needed roof repairs to Stromness Parish Church underway. Photo today 3 June 2012.
[I'm confused. The Tyvek and boards seem to be on top of the slates, but that would suggest the boards have been fixed through the slates, thus knackering them. Unless a new roof covering is going on top, which would have to be slates because of conservation area considertaions, thus loading the roof with twice the weight it was designed for. Unless it is tin slates like on the Kirkwall Power Station, which look like real slates...

According to St Matthew, the 'first shall be last; and the last shall be first'. However, he wasn't specifically referring to the order in which roofing materials should be applied, and the job is in fact being done in the normal way, with the Tyvek laid directly on the pre-existing sarking after removal of the slates (which I'm sure will be put back in place in due course).
