This is a model of The Skaill Mill as it was in the 1890's. I built this scale model from Cruaday Quarry stone. The ground and water surfaces are dyed sand from Skaill beach. I was able to get all details from photos taken in the 1890's. This mill had two mill wheels which were driven by water from the milldam in the foreground. The larger mill wheel drove the main mill and the smaller wheel drove the threshing mill in the barn to the right. The water could be directed to either wheel by a chute. The mill was demolished in the early 1980;s

The lean-tae at the front was the pump house. Deep underground a set of rams pumped water up to Skaill House and the farm house.
