Not sure about the occasion Grant but I see my uncle Harvey Moar in the 3rd row from front just left of centre, we think that it is possibly before 1956? Hopefully someone will have some more information & names though. Is that your Mum & Dad 2nd & 3rd from right bottom row?
Added by LYNN OAG on 19 March 2012
probably not much help, but I'm 99.9% sure that's John & Madeline Windwick back row, right hand side
Added by Alison Ritchie on 20 March 2012
Yes I did notice them too Alison, fairly sure that's them.
Added by LYNN OAG on 20 March 2012
Possibly a very old Orkney Egg Producers party with partners, I see George Stuart in the second row who was manager in the early days.
Added by Edwin Rendall on 20 March 2012
Tony Rosie, 4th from right, back row.
Second front row, 2nd from left, Mrs Stewart, Adrian's mother. Mr Stewart, his father, is in the same row,4th from the right.
First and second right in same row, Mr and Mrs Bain, Hall of Tankerness.

I should have recognised Harvey, and my parents are 2nd and 3rd from the right, Lynn.

The late Tony Rosie and partner or maybe his wife next to John Windwick and Madeleine

Could ths be an Orkney Builders staff do? I wonder if that is Alf McKay in centre of photo and next to him is it Adrian Stuart's father, can't remember his name. At the back 4th in from left I think is John Herdman who used to live in Earl Sigurd Street. At the front 3rd from left is that not Frances Malcolm's Dad who was Polish and used to be chef at Kirkwall Hotel. I also notice Tony Rosie 4th in from right at back row

Pretty sure my parents John and Violet Allan are back left mum in front of dad. I cant remember where he worked could it be hospital?
Added by Moureen Flett on 21 March 2012
Beside Tony Rosie on the left is a Johnston man - nicknamed Panda??
Added by Myra Shearer on 21 March 2012
Yes I noticed Panda as well, he is Stanley Johnston my mum's brother. My dad John Allan also worked at the egg packing station and Alfie Flett's, probably before he was at the hospital.

Maureen, your Dad was certainly at the Balfour when I started there in 1962. He may have been at the Cheese factory at the time of this photo.

I'm sure Edwin Rendall is correct. My father Tom Hourston is on George Stewart/Stuart's right. Dad became OEP secretary after demob from the Army. Neither he nor Mr Stewart seems to have a partner, and I don't know what kind of 'party' it is. Maybe the 'bosses' were there for the group photo, then left so the party could let its hair down.
Added by Ian Hourston on 21 March 2012
Just realised Myra Shearer identified Mrs Stewart in the photo, but no amount of re-scrutiny can pick out my mother. Dad must have had what used to be called a 'pink ticket' - permission from spouse to have a night out on his own.
Added by Ian Hourston on 21 March 2012
Where is your Dad in the photo then, Ian?
Added by Myra Shearer on 21 March 2012
My first comment, confirming Edwin Rendall's surmise that this was an OEP 'do', seems to have got lost. In it I said George Stewart and my father (on George's right) were both without partners. Hope this makes sense of my comment above, which was meant to be only a postscript.
Added by Ian Hourston on 21 March 2012
The reshuffle of the comments will have answered your question Myra.
Added by Ian Hourston on 22 March 2012
Further to my comment about your Dad Maureen, I'm told he was a builder with Alfie Flett prior to working at the Balfour, not at the cheese factory as I mixed him up with Masson Reid.
Added by Neil Johnstone on 22 March 2012
Thanks for that Neil I did not think he was at the cheese factory but can't remember much before his hospital days.Very interesting reading all the comments.

Yes indeed Alison - John and Madeline Windwick. What a super photo. But what "do" was this?
Added by Sandy on 25 March 2012
Almost certain my lovely late mum - Vivian- is just left of centre, third row from the front. My grandmother - Violet- also worked at the egg packing station, although I can't see her in the photograph.
Added by Lyn on 26 March 2012
Hi Lyn. I wasn't sure enough to post it but I thought that was Vivian Hourston. Would that be right? She was a pretty lady.
Added by Myra Shearer on 27 March 2012
Yes Myra, mum was Vivian Hourston. I was born in 1956, when she was 23, so maybe this photo was taken slightly earlier than that.
Added by Lyn on 27 March 2012
Two to Stanley (Panda) Johnston's right , it looks like his sister, my late sister-in-law Kirsty (Mary, later Mathers), also sister to Violet Allan.
