Photo dated July 1958, car must have been nearly new at the time. After leaving Orkney it was used as a taxi by Irvine Bros, Boddam, Shetland when this photo was taken. Who was the Orkney owner or owners ?.

Comments:
Vehicle was first registered on 24th October 1955 and is a "New Prefect" new because it was one of the first of this body design (my own first car was also a New Prefect BS4860) The first owner of this car is recorded as A Laughton, Norwood, Kirkwall.

The radiator grille on this Ford Prefect looks identical to that on Signet/Cygnet, picture #26251, apart from the central badge.

Hpi check brings up nothing, so the plate has died with the car, sadly. There was a Ford Prefect lying at Marness Garage for several months a few years back, I'll dig out a snap.

Old Nan Rosie in Lyness had a black one of these that she used as a taxi in the late 60s early 70s. I don't know the number. When it gave up the ghost it was parked in their yard for many years until the early 80s, I think it just rusted away.
