A real puzzler this one. Look at the spoots on the house and how they go across the windows. Where is the house and who is the proud captor of a 14lb and a 4lb Harray troot?

I think this could be my grandfather James Laughton Bews. He lived in Steness and was a gillie for the Standing Stones hotel about this time?

could this be at Hybreck in Harray?

There are quite a few old houses in Orkney that have the spoots going across the windows, I was just looking at one out at Scapa tonight and I know there's one in Finstown too.

This is Hybreck, Harray. The man could be either James Isbister or David Isbister .They used to catch trout and put in their ice-house which is still there.

I think this is definitely Hybreck in Harray and the man is David Isbister. Over the door there is the date 1903. His grandson is still alive aged 94.

This is definately David Isbister. His brother Thomas came to Australia in 1857 aged 17 years. Thomas is my gg grandfather. He settled in Gulgong NSW in 1861.

Ian, have you got an original copy of this photo? I'd love a copy as this is the only photo I've ever seen of my great-grandfather. I've started researching my family tree and would love to hear from Cheryl Stevens too!
