I know that this is not an Orkney picture but the super picture #26052 submitted by Steven Heddle has created a lot of interest. I have struggled for years as to all their respective names and now I know them all. I took this on an elevated farm track off the A9 near Dunbeath with a Sony cyber-shot. On my summer visit I will be heading to Wideford Hill with a newer and better Sony, so look out Steven, result will be revealed in the autumn.
[I'll have to head up with my newly acquired Pentax K10D and motley lens collection then :-) - Steven]

Beautiful photo Angus. Geologically you could say it is an Orkney picture, taken at the very edge of the sandstone landscape of Orkney and Caithness and looking across at the granites and conglomerates of the Highlands. The houses look to be sandstone, not far south and you're into cruck roofs, granite rubble walls and Gaelic place names.
