Until Tarmac, road metal was loaded by shovel. To save loading time they made this loader at the garage in St Marys. Loaded on the ground, the m/c engine driving a hydraulic pump raised the bucket to the top. The lorry reversed in , they pulled a lever, the bottom opened and the lorry was loaded. You see Dave Norquoy in the photo. When I showed it to him in the ninties he said, "I spent many an hour wae the hacksaw making that thing, two o the wheels are off an Argyll ".

My sister found both the loader photos. Father would have been proud to see his handy work shown to the world!
