Fred, I know who you mean. Mary Borwick was a cousin of my father and was a Yorston from Rousay. I don't know anything about her since she went to Australia but you will find her in www.rousayroots.co.uk

Hello, I’ve just come across the above photo on searching for Borwicks in Kirkwall/Orkney. My mother Jacqueline Christina Borwick (1940-2017) born in Liverpool, died in Chester, her father, my grandfather was John Garson Borwick born 31/10/1904 in Kirkwall, Orkney, died in 1943, John Garson had a number of brothers one of whom I think, according to the treasurer, George Gray of the Orkney Family History Society, may have been old man Borwick of no. 4 Gunns Close who had an Alsatian dog and used to stand daily with the dog, at the top of Gunns close on the corner of Victoria Street. This must have been the late 1960’s. Old man Borwick was married to a lady who was a cleaner at the local school, she used to wear her hair rolled up plaited tidily at the back. Would anyone know ‘old man Borwick’? Does anyone know if my grandfather John Garson Borwick is related to Jim Borwick in the photo?

The reason I ask is my mother was very friendly with a Mary Borwick who stayed in New Scapa Road and who emigrated to Australia in the late fifties. I can barely remember her as I was a bairn at that time.
