As a young boy I remember Willie driving Flett and Sons grocery van around the houses. He had a habit of filling the paraffin cans and then diving in among the bread so you ended up with bread tasting of oil.A great and popular character and van man

I think that Andrew Linklater was on the van twice as Alan Borwick was vanman when I went to Flett & Sons in 1959.

You are right Billy. The Borwick man was on it before Andrew Linklater. Andrew Linklater was on it when I came back from National Service in summer 1960. I was more or less forced to go on it, but it turned out well because it paid well, and I could sell stuff on my own behalf. Ian Tulloch (later North Eastern manager) came on the van after me.
