That would be mine. It had just passed it's MOT and I was in the process of getting it taxed when that was taken.=)

Taken 22 years to get here !

That's an average speed of about 100 miles a year, Tim. Say 2 miles a week - not bad for a Trabi surely? But there's obviously a story behind this. Alistair, I THINK THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE TOLD!

Wow, good thing we built in the heated windows. Keep your hands warm as you push it around the island!

Nice to hear that it's a local car, I thought perhaps a tourist was traveling the UK in a Trabant & making a video diary!

Since you asked, I bought it on ebay off a man in Glenrothes in March. Not quite sure how it got there but it arrived in the UK in 1993 and then spent many of the intervening years in storage and being restored. When I bought it, it was still in need of some work, hence why it's just on the road now. It's also been christened Segei after the meerkat.=P

I suppose it's like the old Skodas only more so - you'll treble its value when you fill the tank. Is it true the bodywork is basically cardboard?

Double perhaps, it's only a small tank afterall.=P

Almost true, it's stuff called duroplast which is made from cotton waste and phenol resin. Pretty good for body work since it's tough, light, is quite flexible and it just doesn't rot!

Thanks Alistair for serious, helpful answers to basically frivolous questions.
