My Grandfather fished and had a share in a herrin boat fae Holm. The name was the "Mashona", soonds like she might have come fae the Western Isles wae a name like that.
Some time ago when some Holm folk were ower here I mentioned the this boat to some o them and blow me this man in the group said his faither had been on the same boat.

Fantastic photo, my old house is second from the left. I renovated the house in 1981-82 and named the house The Anchorage as the house had no name recorded on the title deeds! I purchased the house from Harry Kerr as he had planned to build a pub in the premises next door which used to be Buchan's shop. The previous owner of the house was Claudie Hutcheon and the house was known as "Claudie's hoose". (apologies for any wrong spelling)
My old house clearly has a board above the front door suggesting a business, anyone with any local info on who/what? We discovered during the renovations that the house had been totally gutted by fire in the early part of the 20th Century and had been two houses back to back, the house to the rear had been reduced to single storey after the fire.

My dad was called James Johnston Omand and came from Hoy. He use to speak about having a boat that he shared. Would have been in the 1940s and wondering if this was it ?
