This was a Wyre and Egilsay school trip to Norway via Shetland 1973 but can be corrected on that. This was taken at Kirkwall airport boardan the plane - check oot the big stairs that was a real plane!

Nice photos Rodney. Yes, a real 'plane indeed. We have moved backwards in this respect. The Saab 340 they are using now is rubbish. Little did you know at that time you would one day be flying a forklift truck for Orkney Builders.

Yes the Viscount was the best plane ever to operate on the Kirkwall route.Roomy and very quiet.

Cheers sandy yes older and wiser now still wouldnt have changed the flying lessons at OBS fun times i remember the calculations you used to make about various products we made in one year one being 7 .5 miles of lintels seemed like 20 miles in the rain somedays
