Shore Street from Cromwell Road, 1938?

Peter sends in this picture of how Shore Street looked before the oil tanks replaced the historic old houses, and before both Cromwell road was rerouted closer to the shore and the marina was built. The date is an estimate.

Quite an evocative picture, as I had forgotten about the slip at the bottom of St Catherines Place. Come to think of it, it would be good to have a slip into the marina basin for small boat owners to use even now.

Comments:
My 2xgt grandfather Donald SMITH 1814-1890 was a blacksmith in Shore Street. He had a house, forge and small paddock at the rear. From the description on the census of the area covered. I think it is the last building on the shore on the left of the photo. He also owned Craigiefield and sold it to Hossack.
