Got a loan of this photo, no date or place. on the back it says taken by Harry Russell. Hopefully some of our boatmen will help.
[I've captioned it as St Rognvald on Thievesholm, which would make it May 1973 - Steven]

Definitely the Rognvald on Thievesholm. I mind the day it happened. Folk were very concerned about it at the time, as there had been a young bairn on board at the time. Think the skipper's name was Moncreiff.

Did the Skipper Moncreiff lose his life at the St Margarets Hope pier while serving as Master on the MV Elwick Bay later? Seem tae mind something aboot that.
I think the cattle on board were transfered ashore in Gordon Muir's landing barge,, the same barge that lay in Mill Burn near Lyness for many years before being repaired for Mr R Leith of Kirkwall.
