Sclater family, Kebro, Orphir

Sclater family, Kebro, Orphir. About 1910.
Back row, left to right: Robert (farmed at Tormiston, Stenness, John (lived in Orphir), Lily, Barbara (worked at Gardens in Harray for many years), James (farmed at Groundwater), Victor (killed at the Somme).
Front row, left to right: Celia (also worked at Gardens in Harray for many years), Jessie (married James Slater, farmed at Yarpha, Orphir), James (father), Sinclair, Jessie (née Linklater), Mary Jean (married William Dickson and emigrated to New Zealand), Violet.

Lily and Violet lived at Kebro for most of their long lives. Along with Barbara and Celia, they were 'the aunties o Kebro' for a crowd of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Many happy memories.

Hi Jane, We were on holiday last month in Orkney, and noticed the graves of Lily & Violet, Barbara & Celcia. We were touched by how long Lily and Violet lived and how close together they died. On the Ring of Brodgar tour, Sandra the Ranger told us a bit about the family. Thank you so much for posting this photo, as we can now put faces to names! They sound like they were such a lovely close family.

So grateful to discover more ancestors in Orkney! I have a book of my family lineage based on 10 years' research my aunt Joyce Sanderson (née Graham) wrote for us, which includes Orphir Fisherman Joseph Sclatter who m. Catherine Short: my great great great grandparents. I'll be in Orkney soon to explore my roots & potentially living there.

Very interesting and parallel to my Leask family who lived all over Orkney but particularly at Kebro and Birsay, hailing early from Papay. Related to Fletts, Grahams, Moodies, Sinclairs and Stewart’s. Also interested in maybe ‘returning’.
