Legion Band at Lyness?

Not sure if this photograph has already been seen on this site, anyway this one has come back to Hoy from Dr Grant (a former Hoy doctor)'s widow since his passing.

Names as I know them are Jimmy Williamson(Peem)-Ian McKay (Shetland)-Jimmy?Edwards-Harry Berry-Sandy Begg?-Mervyn Swanson-Jeenie Berry.

Not to sure where this one was taken but think it would have been in a venue at Lyness Naval Base early 1950's

Comments:
I think this wid be later than 1950. Peem is younger than me, and think he wid been 8 or 9 year old in 1950, but he was in the band from quite a young fella right enough. I wid say it wid be aboot 1954-55. Just had a look at my own pic o the band, and reckon it was taken the same time as this one, same venue but Harry has changed to the banjo, great memories..

Could it be a part of the old Lyness Cinema? I seem to remember going to a bairns Christmas party in that area when Mervyn was just an infant and Santa's wife having to warm his bottle.

There was a hall just past the old laundry, on the same side o the road, and set back from the road, I have a feeling it might be it... another thought, did the British Legion Club have a hall?

Which of the above mentioned possible venues had a Grand Piano? It is not something one would just bring along for the evening.

Great picture. There are not many halls in Orkney with the luxury of a grand piano - upright pianos are more common.
