DATE 2ND MARCH 2011.The wording on the wall reads "the word of the lord endureth for ever" (but not when painted on a sandstone lintel)

On the contrary, the irony here is the opposite to what Willie imagines. When the Council bought the building the text was there in all its glory, but surely caused offence to the secular sensibilities of those in charge of it, and a not entirely successful attempt was made to remove it.
