OLd Europa

This'll be the Europa you're remembering Steven, seen here in Kirkwall Bay. She was much bigger right enough, and is now called Bleu de France. The current Europa was completed in 1999. (Picture taken 'prior to 1999'.)

Not as long ago as 1981 Steven. She was completed that year, but I think I took this shot in 1996. There have been several Europas over the years.

[Can't be far off Ian, as I am sure we circumnavigated it in Mark Rendall's boat, one summer during our school days. Maybe 82 or 83- what do you think Mark? - Steven]

I don't doubt you did Steven, but she would have called at Kirkwall several times over the years. The date-stamp on my original slide-mount isn't absolutely clear, but it's certainly ninety-something.

Certainly sometime in the early 80's that she started coming in to Orkney. I started on the tour buses in 1981 and it was very short after that the Europa started arriving.
