George and Maggie Johnston

George (born 1888) and Maggie (born 1887)(nee Mathieson) Johnston both born in Orkney.

Maggie came to Canada in 1912...unsure if George the same..

this picture is from 1947 in Galt, Ontario Canada but I'm still not familiar with the family story of George and Maggie..if anyone can help?

Comments:
George was the son of Isabella Johnston, had 3 sisters, Christina, Isabella and Aderina. They were from the Brims area of South Walls.

Isabella was my grand aunt and I vaguely remember her when I was very small. Christina was born in 1880, Andrena in 1884 and George in 1888. I don't think that George went to Canada until the 20's or 30's, but unfortunately, the people who remember him in Brims have passed on, some of them not too long ago. George's son visited us in Stromness about 30 years ago and I still have his card. He later went down to Longhope and would have met several people, who would have known his father.

I have managed to locate the Wedding of George Johnston born 1888 mother Isabella Johnston to Maggie (Margaret Jean) Mathieson born 1888 mother Christina Mathieson. The wedding took place in St Mary's Holm, Orkney on 1st march 1912 so they must have emigrated shortly after that date.

I do not think that they could have emigrated as early as 1912. A woman that I knew in Brims ( also Maggie Johnston nee Mathieson) remembered George and I doubt if she was born in 1912.
