Longhope Agricultural Show August 1953
This is a photograph of Sinclair Manson, of the Stoop, Longhope taken at the Longhope Agricultural Show.
I've gone over the lettering with a pen to darken it, but I'm still unsure what Mary Armstrong's role was - reporter? Any suggestions?

Could be "Preparer"

I think the boy to the right of Mary Armstrong is Andy Sutherland, don't know who the other chaps are.
The photo is taken at the wartime site of the CRS (Casuality Recovery Station) on the land of Big Wards in "Waas"( Vagaland) here I go again!! Up the V.F.F.!!!!

After some "spearan" (Orkney word for being nosey) I can tell you Mary that the lady in the photograph is indeed Mary Armstrong, and is the daughter of Annie Armstrong "nee Stewart" . The Stewarts lived at Misbister, not far from The Stoop.
I think Annie's husband was a naval commander.

Bill and Angus, I agree, it probably reads Sinclair Manson, Owner and Preparer of Champion Cow, and has nothing to do with Mary Armstrong at all. Thanks.

Thanks John, does "Waas" mean Walls as in South Walls? V.F.F.??

The norse name for Waas was Vagaland, meaning 'land of Bays'. Some of us would like to see the old name restored hence the Vagaland Freedom Fighters (V.F.F.) all very deep meaning and silly!
