Old boat lying in Sanday. Possibly built by Omand of Sanday who died in 1905. Can anyone confirm this. Does anyone know of other Omand boats? I have one called Nora. Photograph taken by me in 2008.

It is difficult to tell whether this is an Omand built yole or Scott built. The scott built yoles tended to have a sharper forefoot to help them go to weather better. I know of two Omand built yoles that are still around. There is one called "Gem" in Westray that is still being used in the Regattas, also my father and I restored "Lizzie" for the planned boat museum in 2005 and then built a replica "Lizzie II" which we have been sailing for the last two years.

Surprised that no one from Sanday has come up with some info on the history of this old yawl?
For instance where is the location?

Did it belong to the late Jim Sinclair the Baker at one time?

This sure looks like the style of boat my grandfather used. Scottish through and through but discovered in researching Norse heritage...which might be reflected in the boat building.

Wonder if folks in Sanday area think about having yawl indoors and prep for museum with history.
Sure hate to lose the history of the area.
