Who is this? Think he could be related to Brian Clouston from Finstown, photo could be at parkhead.

That is the Late Great Jimmy Manson, he could tell you a tale or two.

It is Jimmy Manson who worked for many years for the U.K.A.E.A. Caithness. We had many a good laugh with Jimmy when he used to visit us in Thurso and mum and dad in Longhope. He was a brother of Lizzie Mowat.

Is this Jimmy Manson whose family at one time lived at Ore in North Walls??.
If it is Jimmy then he lived for sometime in Thurso and was quite a joker as I remember.

No relation of mine but certainly a grand uncle of the anonymous contributer. Should be identified by older hoy viewers and later in Thurso. A spinner of fantastic tales whose genes are still rampant in Finstown

He was best man at my late mother and fathers wedding, the way he is sitting there is the way he always sat when visiting, leaning well back in the chair ,and spinning the most incredible tales,he had a brother Donnie living in Thurso as well..

I remember Jimmy living in Ormlie Lodge in 1982. He was a real character and always up for a laugh.

Sometime during WW 11 a German plane dropped a stick of bombs and they fell around the farm of Ore just above Lyness, at that time Ore was farmed by the Manson Family.
Some fell close to the house and others fell in the fields among the neeps and tatties.
Jimmy went to his work at the Lyness Base in the morning and his workmates asked
,how are things at Ore Jimmy, oh he replied the last o the tatties are jist comman doon noo!!
I have already told about Jimmy buying a boat from Lyness and having it transported to Scrabster on the Ola. Jimmy had them lower it into the water and then brought it the short distance across Thurso Bay and up the river.
It was a dirty day with a strong westerly gale blowing. Jimmy poured a bucket o water over his head and as he motored up the river his freends gathered and said "My god Jimmy what a day, have yea come from Orkney in that little boat?"
"Yaas," says Jimmy "and some bloody trip I have had!"
What a Joker Jimmy was.
