Drying fish at the Peedie Sea

Not really sure of the date on this one,or who took it.

I assume thats the Ayre Mills to the left of the picture, which would probably mean this is where the Mills Filling Station is

What is the wooden contraption would it have held salt in it for preserving the fish or water for cleaning them?

This is the same area used by Thomas Chalmers fish store for drying the larger fish such as cod or halibut, a similar picture by Tom Kent is dated 1900.
