I mind John Laughton fine. He lived with his wife in a peedie house on Berstane Road. I used to pass his house several times a day. A fine gentleman.

Hello. My name is Marie I am researching my family history. I have an interest in Archie Laughton as I think he may be related to my family - Laughton. In the picture you mention Archie and John are brothers. I think Archie’s parents were William Laughton formerly of Lambholm and then FOVERAN Kirkwall and Margaret S Rendall. Is this the same Archie Laughton? I didn’t know he had a brother. I also wonder if there are still relatives of Arhie and John in Orkney? Would love to speak to any relatives. I am descended from William S Laughton of The Park, Holm. He was my ggrandfather. I know my family were The Laughton’s of Vigga and The Park. Mum tells me that we also had relatives on Lambholm. If anyone has any information about Archie and John I would be grateful. Thanks Marie

Hello Marie.
I Have just started researching these Laughtons. I knew John quite well, but that was in the fifties. He is the son of William Lawson and Margaret Rendall. He is not a close relation:
Lots more work to do.

Oops!
Not William Lawson, but William Laughton.
He married Margaret Seatter Rendall in Kirkwall on 28 Dec 1905.
John’s brother is Archibald and he married Lily Alice Walden, in London I think.

Hi Rognvold,
Thank you for your reply. So it is the same Archie that I have been researching. I have some information about Archie and John’s paternal grandparents and great grandparents, who were living on Lambholm. Archie and John’s father William Laughton was on Lambholm until his father Archibald Laughton died in 1884. William then moved to Kirkwall with his mother and sisters. If I can help you with more information please let me know. I have some birth/marriage/death certs. Best wishes Marie

I was the butchers boy at Porky Hornes at the time and worked with an extremely pleasant and modest elderly gentleman called John. He told me Barabel was his. I never did believe him. Should I have?
