Oddfellows' Report

Click to View A press report of the Oddfellows' Ball shown in picture #1714. It is from the Orkney Herald of 31st December 1924. Electric light was still a novelty, the town electricity supply having only started that February.

Click to View shows the first Kirkwall Power Station, a picture which I have clearly dated incorrectly. As it stood right behind the Town Hall, the revellers at the Oddfellows Ball would undoubtedly heard and felt its presence, as well as enjoying the light from the electricity that had travelled the few yards to get there.
