would it be Andy Wylie, second in from the right back row and Kenny Wards next to Andy on his right.The man in the grey suit sitting on the arm of the sofa could be Alfy Walls.

According to records in my possession the Inaugural meeting and forming an Orkney Branch of RAFA took place on 21st January 1949 and the first Miss RAFA was chosen in 1950. This was Miss Ann Taylor of Lequoy, Birsay, 1951 was Miss Alison Lennie, 1952 was Miss Joan Thorburn from Edinburgh, 1953 was Miss Anita Sabiston, 1954 was Miss Barbara Major. After that I think the dances were taken over by the Royal British Legion.

At the lady's right shoulder is Bob McIntosh I think, who worked with me at the airport for many years until his retirement

At the meeting of Orkney Branch RAFA held on 9th March members identified the following people: second from left Dennis Mowat, back row right hand side Duigit Ross, second row right hand side Alistair Clunas, Miss RAFA Joan Thorburn alongside J.Sinclair Shapinsay. If Miss Joan Thorburn is correctly identified this would date the picture 1952.
