This picture is on p 105 of Shoal and Sheaf, where it's dated to c1860. the well in the foreground was removed in 1871. The version of the photo here is valuable, because the one in the book is cropped at all edges, and some detail is lost. I think it's one of the most remarkable photos of 19thc Orkney, not least for the fashions!
